Reality Star Dies Suddenly at 41

Amber Eggers, a fan favorite from the We TV reality series Love After Lockup, died Thursday night at a hospital in Atlanta. She was 41.

Her mother, Monica Eggers, confirmed the death to TMZ. Amber had been admitted a few days earlier after she started feeling sick, and doctors could not keep her heart beating any longer. She died of acute liver failure on September 3, ending a health battle that had stretched on for more than a year.

Friends broke the news online

Word first spread through a tribute post on Instagram. “Amber Eggers has lost her fight today and passed away,” the message read. The post confirmed she had been admitted on Tuesday, September 1, with liver failure.

“The doctors did everything they could, but in the end, her body just couldn’t keep fighting,” it continued. “And if you knew Amber, you know she is a fighter.”

The friends said Love After Lockup viewers and cast members alike loved her. They wrote that they had laughed with her, worried about her, and cheered her on through everything she faced. The tribute ended with a line meant for Amber herself: “Thank you for being you, Amber. You are going to be missed.”

A health battle that reached back to 2025

Eggers’ health had been fragile since the spring of 2025. That year, according to the same tribute, a bout of pneumonia turned into sepsis and multiple organ failure, and she ended up on life support.

“She had already survived so much,” her friends wrote. “In the spring of 2025, pneumonia turned into sepsis and multiple organ failure, and she ended up on life support. She came back from that. She got to go home.”

The illness had come on hard. She spent time in the ICU, and for a while it was not clear she would pull through. She did, and the recovery became its own long project, one her family documented step by step for the fans who kept checking in on her.

Her sister started a GoFundMe

Her sister, Erin Hyndman, launched a GoFundMe in May 2025 to help cover the mounting medical bills. “I’m reaching out today with an update and a heavy heart to ask for your help,” she wrote. “Many of you know Amber is one of the kindest and most big-hearted people you could ever meet. Right now, she needs all of that strength for the fight of her life.”

Hyndman said Amber had been hospitalized with severe pneumonia and a bacterial infection in her blood, and that her condition became critical. Days after starting the fundraiser, she posted better news. Amber was out of the ICU and had started physical therapy to regain strength in her legs and, in her sister’s words, “to be able to walk again.”

For a time, the updates read like a comeback. She had beaten something that should have killed her, and she had a family and a fan base pulling for her the whole way.

A stroke this summer, then a final hospital stay

This summer brought another setback. In July 2026, Eggers suffered a mini-stroke, and she talked about it plainly on Facebook. “I just had that mini stroke and my bday,” she wrote in an August 5 post, “what better time th[an] the present.”

She had been home recovering when her health turned again. She was readmitted to the hospital on September 1. Two days later, on September 3, she died.

Her mother said doctors could not keep Amber’s heart beating any longer, and that acute liver failure was ultimately what took her.

The prison romance that made her a fan favorite

Eggers joined Love After Lockup for its second season in 2019. The show followed couples in which one partner was behind bars or newly released, and Amber’s storyline unfolded while she was serving a four-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.

On camera, she was dating Vincent Gonzalez, and the two got engaged during the run of the show. Viewers watched the romance build, then fall apart. The relationship ended not long after she was released from prison.

Her life after the cameras had its own hard turns. She was arrested in December 2024 and booked on a DUI charge; no plea or outcome in the case has been made public. Fans who followed her closely kept rooting for her through it.

The friendship fans couldn’t forget

One bond outlasted every romance on the show. Amber grew close with Michelle “Puppy” Deaton, her former cellmate, while the two were incarcerated together. The series followed a romantic thread between them that later settled into friendship, and from 2020 they made cameos side by side on other seasons of the franchise, as well as the spin-off Life After Lockup.

Fans often saw Amber as the steadier of the two, the one who kept Puppy grounded when things went sideways. That reputation showed up fast after the news. In comment after comment, viewers said they were worried about how Puppy would take the loss, with one writing that they wanted to hug her.

The show and its cast paid tribute

We TV and the Love After Lockup franchise released a joint statement. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Amber Eggers, an original and unforgettable member of the Love After Lockup family,” it read. “She was a bright light, who shared her life story with courage and authenticity, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey over several years.”

The statement closed simply: “Our hearts are with her family and friends who held her close.”

Cast members grieved too. Fellow alum Lindsey Booker remembered their late-night conversations and called Amber “the sweetest person,” with a personality “as big as life.”

Fans flooded the comments

Reactions poured in from people who had only known Amber through their televisions but felt like they had known her for years. “One of the few people on Love After Lockup I liked, she seemed so genuine,” one wrote.

Another viewer put it this way: “This makes me sad, I felt (through watching) that she was a kind and genuine soul. May she rest in peace.” The theme repeated over and over. People believed her. On a show built around drama and second chances, she came across as honest about her past and serious about her future.

Amber Eggers survived pneumonia, sepsis, organ failure and a stroke before liver failure finally caught up with her. She was 41.
